Confidence is a wonderful thing, it allows you to do almost anything and it certainly makes following your dreams a whole lot easier. But what do you do, if you are like many of the coaching clients I work with and are struggling to increase your confidence?
Well here’s 7 easy steps to get you started today!
- Visualise your best self
Imagine an Olympic athlete right before the race of their life. Stood at the start line, visualising the race, running a person best, an Olympic best, imagining themselves stood on the podium listening to their national anthem as they collect their gold medal.
Right, have you imagined it? Every morning visualise your very best self. Look in the mirror and tell yourself that today is going to be your best day, the presentation you have to do today, tell yourself that you will nail it, imagine the amazing feedback you will receive after you have delivered it.
If negative self-doubt does creep in, let it go, don’t add any meaning to it, don’t give it any power. Focus your mind on your success. It takes practice, but over time, you will notice a massive improvement in your self-confidence and self-believe.
Give it a try, what have you go to lose?
- Do some exercise
I know first hand the power of exercise; it’s one of the fastest ways to increase your confidence. You will start to achieve things you never thought possible and you will have the added bonus of a body you are proud of and bags and bags of energy.
I don’t want to hear excuses; “I don’t have time” or “I can’t run very far”
Get of the bus a stop earlier, walk instead of taking the car, do some squats whilst you are waiting for the kettle to boil. Even better get yourself outside, breath in some fresh air and feel even more reenergised. Start small and work your way up to that gym class.
Yes you can do it.
- Surround yourself with positive and inspiring people
Take a look at the people you hang out with, who are you spending most of your time with? Are these people inspirational and leave you feeling good about yourself? Or, are they energy zappers, do you spend time with the negative Nora’s (sorry Nora’s, I know your not really negative)
Spend time with people that encourage you to be your very best self, those who uplift you and leave you smiling and happy.
- Celebrate the small wins
Many of us play down our achievements, for a whole host of reasons, but it’s really important to celebrate your wins and those wins don’t have to be massive, life changing or monumental events. Celebrate the small stuff as well.
- Perhaps you find writing management reports a really tough challenge? Celebrate when you submit it!
- Or maybe you are looking to lose weight; this week you lost a pound, then celebrate!
Look after yourself; celebrate with a manicure, a bubble bath or something that makes you feel great.
- Just be you
We are all unique and we all have things that we wish we could change, but start to accept your little flaws. I can pretty much guarantee no one else even notices them! Just being you sounds like it should be so easy, but the reality is it’s hard. Being ourselves means we open ourselves up to critics and ridicule, but at the same time we open ourselves up to acceptance, love, fulfilment and happiness.
- Action – makes it happen
Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.” ~Dale Carnegie.
Just do it, it’s that simple! Well okay, so it takes some practice, but just get out there and make it happen. Taking action will without doubt make you feel more confident and give you more self-belief.
You can do it, I know you can. I believe in you.
